INJURY CRISIS HITS HOME

AC Milan have been reeling under the injury crisis in midfield. AC Milan let go Andrea Pirlo in the summer, and it has proven to be a major decision for the current AC Milan manager. AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri was of the opinion that the presence of players like Alberto Aquilani would help him tide over the crisis caused by the departure of Andrea Pirlo. However, the Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani has sustained a major injury, which will keep him out of the first team action for quite some time. This has meant that AC Milan have lost a lot of creativity in midfield, which has led them into signing the Inter Milan player Sulley Muntari on a loan deal till the end of the season.

Sulley Muntari moved to Inter Milan from Portsmouth while the Italian club was under the stewardship of José Mourinho. Since then, many managers have come and gone at Inter Milan. The latest – Claudio Ranieri – seems to be someone who does not rate Sulley Muntari as a good player. Hence, the former Portsmouth midfielder has managed just four appearances for Inter Milan this season. The season long loan deal with AC Milan comes as a huge relief for both clubs and the player.

Inter Milan had signed Sulley Muntari from Portsmouth for around £ 12 million. However, they were willing to talk over a potential season long loan deal with one of their arch rivals due to the fact that he was unable to get any first-team action under new manager Claudio Ranieri. Even though the job of Claudio Ranieri is under threat after a series of poor performances in recent weeks, Sulley Muntari has decided to move to AC Milan for the rest of the season for the benefit of his career.

AQUILANI RULED OUT

AC Milan midfielder Alberto Aquilani has been ruled out of the match with arch rivals Inter Milan, which will come as a major blow to AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri’s chances of keeping tabs with Juventus at the top of the table. Furthermore, it will also provide Inter Milan with the opportunity to close the gap on AC Milan.

It was only a few weeks ago at the start of the season that Inter Milan looked all but out of the title race, but spectacular form since appointing Claudio Ranieri has meant that AC Milan’s arch rivals have closed the gap. They have the opportunity to bring an end to the 12 match unbeaten run AC Milan have been enjoying recently.

The fact that Gattuso and Alberto Aquilani are both set to miss the match means that AC Milan need to rethink their strategy in midfield. Even though AC Milan have one of the strongest forward line up in the entire division, they are lacking in terms of the midfield numbers. So far, the presence of Alberto Aquilani has provided strength to the midfield, which means that his absence is going to be felt more than anybody else. For the rest of the season, though, a similar need to worry about the absence of Gattuso, as the veteran midfielder has been diagnosed with a rare condition called ocular myasthenia.

This is a form of influenza, which seems to have come to Gattuso during the recent trip to Dubai as part of the winter training camp. Alberto Aquilani has been missing from the AC Milan side for more than a month, but Massimiliano Allegri would have been hoping to get the on loan Liverpool midfielder at least for this game, which is truly mammoth in all ways.

Aquilani Agent Expects Milan Stay

Liverpool’s on-loan midfielder Alberto Aquilani is thought to be staying in Italy after his agent came out and said that he expects that AC Milan will activate the buyout clause in the midfielder’s contract.

Aquilani has made 13 appearances for Milan so far this season, and has frequently made his aims to remain in Italy on a permanent basis clear. Although Liverpool thought in the summer that they would have space for Aquilani on Merseyside, Milan took the Italian on board just before the summer deadline passed. Agent Franco Zavaglia has confidence that the change from loan to a permanent stay is only a formality in his move to the San Siro.

“We can without doubt consider Milan activating the buy-out clause to be a pure formality, especially as he’ll soon reach the written parameters set by Milan and Liverpool,” Zavaglia told Itasportpress. “Alberto is doing well and I think this is clear for all to see.”

Aquilani is thought to be worth around 9 million and was absolutely delighted to be given the opportunity to play for Milan. He spent the previous season on loan at Juventus. Milan have the choice of making the move permamenent when Aquilani completes 25 appearances for the club, and the Liverpool star only needs to play for the club 12 more times to make that occur.

Through loan spells in Italy, Aquilani has been able to get his place back in the international side. The 27 year old has made only 18 appearances for Liverpool since moving to the club in 2009, but at Juventus and Milan collectively he has made 42.

It is thought that Liverpool are looking to offload the midfielder but with nobody willing to meet Kenny Dalglish’s price tag of 15 million it is thought that Liverpool will settle for 9 Million from AC Milan

Alberto Aquilani

Alberto Aquilani is an Italian midfielder who currently plays for English football team, Liverpool FC. He is considered as one of the finest midfielders of this generation from Italy and has played most of his football with Italian side Roma. He is best known for playing in the attacking midfielder\’s role, although he has also been used as a deep lying playmaker in the mould of Andrea Pirlo. The talent within him was spotted by many English clubs including the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, but Alberto Aquilani decided to play for his home side Roma.

He went on to make 102 appearances for the Italian club, but he was good enough to make more than those appearances. His time at Roma was blighted by injuries, which restricted him to just around the 20 appearances per season during his seven-year stint with the Italian club. During the final two seasons at Roma, but Aquilani was subjected to plenty of transfer rumours. However, he managed to prolong his stay up until 2009 when he moved to Liverpool for a fee of around £18 million.

However, the move to Liverpool did not go as planned. He was purchased by Liverpool, despite the apparent lack of fitness due to a recent injury. This restricted him to only a few appearances during the initial six months of the Liverpool career. Alberto Aquilani is also one of the few players who has made a high profile transfer, despite carrying a serious injury. The injury finally came to bite him, as the move to Liverpool did not reap benefits for his career. The fact that the manager who signed him, Rafa Benitez, who was sacked, did not also help the cause. Hence, he moved to Juventus on a season long loan after he fell out with new manager Roy Hodgson.

At Juventus, he once again displayed the sort of form that made him a target for clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United. Alberto Aquilani revealed that he did not want to return to Liverpool, but want to stay with Juventus. However, a fee could not be agreed between the two clubs and Aquilani returned to the English club at the start of the 2011-2012 Premier League season.

Aquilani has had a highly successful career in which he has won a number of trophies. Even though he has not won the league either in Italy or in England, he has won two Coppa Italia titles and one Supercoppa Italiana titles.

Alberto Aquilani has also represented his home country Italy on the international stage and is a regular for the national team. So far, he has made 16 appearances for the Italian national team and has scored two goals in the process. The recent problems with Liverpool, though, have restricted his appearances with the national side. Aged 27, Alberto Aquilani is at one of the important stages in his career, with the next move extremely crucial in deciding the future of this talented Italian.
