MILAN LINING UP FORMER PLAYER AS POSSIBLE NEW PRIMAVERA COACH

A new name has emerged to potentially take over as the head coach of Milan’s Primavera side in former Rossoneri midfielder Alberto Aquilani. Calciomercato.com report how the Milan leadership are looking for the right coach to entrust a talented group of players with after the sacking of Giunti and after a difficult season where the relegation play-offs were only avoided thanks to a win against Genoa in the final round.

With 3 consecutive Coppa Italia Primavera titles and an Primavera Super Cup to his name with Fiorentina, Aquilani is building a reputation as a bright young coach. For the moment it is only an idea, but the former Roma and Liverpool midfielder is admired because of the way the young Viola players are expressing themselves.

It was back on 11 July 2019 that Aquilani was announced as the head coach of Fiorentina’s U18 team but he joined the first team staff as an assistant to Giuseppe Iachini in December of that year, and then in July 2020 he was appointed as head coach of the Primavera squad. Although Aquilani would not argue if told that he did not have a playing career equivalent to the kind of raw talent during his playing days, it remains to be seen if he will have a better coaching career.

He already mentioned sometime last year that he would be venturing into coaching and it looks like he is already about to start the new journey very soon. With Milan confident that they can land him for the Primavera head coach role, he would be expected to add some more spine to the team, as well as more quality and development of the players in such a way that they can become better as a team.

Aquilani is expected to get the backing of the club if he is to he appointed for the role that is still currently vacant.
