AQUILANI: NO REGRET QUITTING LIVERPOOL

Former Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani has stated that he has no regrets about his ill-fated stint with Liverpool.


The former Liverpool midfielder arrived at the Merseyside from Roma in a deal that cost Liverpool around £17m. However, Aquilani’s Liverpool career was plagued with injuries that ensured the former Italian midfielder flopped during his stint in the premier league.

Aquilani throughout his Liverpool spell managed just 28 premier league appearances, eventually quitting the club in 2012, after brief loan spells with Ac Milan and Juventus.

Having left the premier league giant in 2012, Aquilani went on to play for Fiorentina for three years, and Sporting CP for one year. However, this summer, Aquilani signed for new boys Pescara where he now plies his trade.

I HAD A GREAT TIME WITH LIVERPOOL – AQUILANI

Former Liverpool man in the midfield, Alberto Aquilani who signed for Serie A newboys Pescara this summer alleged he has zero regrets over his stay at Anfield which was not up to par.


The Pescara new midfielder joined Liverpool from Roma in 2009, in a deal which cost the Reds around £20m, and unfortunately after his arrival, he picked up an ankle injury, Aquilani’s Liverpool career never got going, he struggled to appear just 28 times for the Reds, ultimately departing in 2012 after spells on loan with both Juventus and AC Milan.

The 32-year old spent three years at Fiorentina, and a year at Sporting CP before he joined Serie A newboys, Pescara this summer. While reflecting on his time at Liverpool in an interview with GazzettaDello Sport, the Italian said it was an honor for him to walk out at Anfield.

“I had a great time with Liverpool and I had the honor of wearing a special shirt and playing in an incredible stadium,” Aquilani said.

Will Aquilani make a summer move to Pescara?

The Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani is currently a player of Sporting CP where he managed to make 19 appearances during his debut season.


Back in August of 2009, Liverpool took a risk in signing Aquilani as the Premier League offloaded €20 million in securing the services of the Italian player who at that point in time was being hyped and even labeled as someone who could become the best player in the world.

He is potentially one of the best players in the world. He has been unlucky with injuries so far but I believe he will do really well in England.” Francesco Totti said back in 2009 as he said that Aquilani would have a successful career in Liverpool after being signed for €20 million.

Aquilani has not lived up to the expectations of the fans, managers and other players. Despite performing with top Italian clubs such as: Ac.Milan and Juventus, Aquilani could never truly stand out.

The 32 year old midfielder is now performing with Sporting CP but there are rumors going on linking him with a move to the Serie B club Pescara. The veteran player still has 1 more year left on his contract with Sporting CP after having signed with the Portuguese club on a free transfer in the previous summer transfer window. Aquilani speaks about his Liverpool career

Alberto Aquilani said that he has regret about his Liverpool career.

The Italian midfielder was touted as being the next best thing in football when he signed for Liverpool in 2009 but will fail to make an impact at Anfield. Indeed, he was signed in order to replace Xabi Alonso, who was moving to Spain but will fail to replace the Spanish midfielder.

However, the career of Alberto Aquilani was hindered by injuries. He could not make an immediate start after coming to Liverpool because he was injured and most of his time at Anfield will be marred by injuries. Indeed he only managed to make 18 appearances in the Premier League and could only manage one goal during that period.

When asked whether he has regret on the way his career has been with Liverpool he said yes. He admitted that he would have loved to stay longer with Liverpool, but unfortunately he could not make a decisive impact on the team. He said that injuries hindered his career and that he did not have time to adapt to the Premier League. He stated that he was even more affected when the manager who brought him to Anfield, Rafael Benitez left the team. He stated that he lost all his bearings and could not find a way back in the team. ROMA OFFERS €11M FOR PSG LUCAS DIGNE

Italian side, AS Roma have offered Paris St Germain €11m to sign Lucas Digne permanently, according to latest reports.


The wife of the player is also reported to to have arranged to stay in the capital. The full-back arrived at the Giallorossi on a temporary deal last summer, with the option to buy set at €16m.

The capital club want to keep the France international but Leggo reports they are attempting to lower the fee for his transfer. Roma have made a new offer of €11m, in addition to the €2.5m already agreed for his loan, to the French champions. The newspaper also says that Digne’s wife, who is on an Erasmus university exchange programme in Rome, has filed the paperwork to continue her education in the Italian capital. Digne scored three goals and provided three assists in 33 Serie A apperances this season.

Roma also acquired Brazilian goal keeper Alisson ahead of the summer. The 23-year old player would officially join when the transfer window opens. The goal keeper has hushed reports that he would be a backup player at Roma. He insists he is going to the Italian side to play. Having been called up to the preliminary Brazil squad for the Copa America, the ‘keeper is not keen to lose his place at international level. At a press conference, he said:

“Dunga has said clearly that it will depend on how you’re playing with your club ahead of the international breaks.

“I’m going to Roma to play, but now I’m focused on the national team and the Copa America. I always try to make the most of any opportunities I get.”

On going to Roma to play, Wojciech Szczęsny was the Lupi’s first-choice in goal this season, but it’s not clear if he’ll sign permanently, having been on loan for Arsenal during this campaign.

 

Alberto Aquilani now playing with Sporting CP

Following his £17m signing to Liverpool, AlberoAquilani was presented as being the next big player in football.

Unfortunately, the player did not live up to the expectations and was a big flop.


He started his career with Roma where he made his debut in 2002 under manager Fabio Capello. He will manage to make only 2 appearances for Roma before being loaned out to Triestina where he will manage 41 appearances for the Serie B club. He will score 4 goals for them.

After that, he will return to Roma where he will make more than 145 appearances for them and scoring 15 goals during the process. He won the Coppa Italia with Roma twice in 2007 and 2008 as well as the SupercoppaItaliana in 2007.

His good form with Roma will attract interest from Liverpool, and he will sign for the England club in 2009. He will make his debut in the Premier League in a game against Birmingham City, which ended 2-2. He will manage 26 appearances for Liverpool in his first season and scored 2 goals during the process.
